We recommend the following number of hours training for each Part of the ADI Tests. (Any lessons not used can be transferred to the next Test type)
- Part 1 Theory Test – We recommend a total of 6 hours training, a mixture of classroom & in 1:1 car sessions – Block booking price = £315 Plus all the cost of any learning materials & cost of the Part 1 Test Fee is £81.
- Part 2 Training – The number of lessons required really depends on how good/bad your driving standard is – The average number of lessons would normally be between 10 to 20 lessons. The lessons would be mainly in car 1:1 but can include some classroom work. This package can bought as 1 complete package costing £1050 or 2 block bookings of 10 lessons costing £525 each. Part 2 Test Fee is £111
- Part 3 Training – The number of hours required for Part 3 is a minimum of 40. This package can be bought complete at £2100 or can be split into block bookings of 10 or 20 lessons. The lessons would be mainly in car 1:1 but can include some classroom work. Part 3 Test Fee is £111
READY To Pass differs from many schools as we believe it is better to complete your training with at least 1 other student ADI. We guarantee that you will still get 1:1 training, but as long as you have the time available why not sit in with a ‘Training Buddy’, you’ll see how they interpret their training, and you can then both practice together, take it from us this is a much better way to train.
As with learners who we advise to practice driving with a parent or friend, taking your lessons with another trainee instructor in the car now & again can really help. Susie & Dave have both trained with the DVSA using this method and can say it absolutely works!

We’ve seen a number of instructors bury their heads in the sand, and think they’ll be OK on the day of the test as they’ve been doing the job for years! – No, No, No!
You’ve firstly got to accept you need to make changes and then take some training!
READY To Pass can help you! After an initial assessment were we sit in on one of your lessons & after analysing your previous 12 months driving test data, (available from the DVSA) we will then make a estimate on how many lessons you may need:

Some Details of Instructor Training Parts 1 to 3
Part One (Theory Test)
You can have as many attempts at this test as you need, We as examiners have witnessed on a daily basis a number of issues with the ‘Theory Test’ mainly that candidates who have passed the test, on many occasions show no retained knowledge of the theory syllabus!
It would appear purely training online, or just reading the highway code will not provide a true understanding, so we work with you in car & in Classroom to ensure a thorough understanding of the theory, we also provide access to Theory Test Pro.
This detailed dual learning process will help you in your goal of becoming a successful instructor, with a thorough in depth knowledge to pass on to your students.
Part Two (Driving Test)
The Part 2 driving test is not expecting you to drive at the same standard as a learner! Far from it you can get no more than 6 driving faults! Not only that but the assessment for the driving faults is far stricter, the DVSA also use your planning linked to how it affects the economy of your drive, to affect any of the driving faults throughout your drive!
Every driver picks up bad habits in their driving, and will probably have a hole in their knowledge somewhere that needs to fixed, Dave who before becoming a driving instructor was an advanced police driver & motorcyclist still needed just over 20 hours training, (to remove some of the ‘Advanced’ techniques he used).
This is the reason why the recommended number of lessons is so open.
Every instructor should aim to improve their driving at should at all times drive to the highest standard, don’t forget as part of your teaching, you should always be aiming to develop your students driving so that they do everything to the same standard as you. This should be the standard you use to assess whether a student is ready to pass their driving test.
As stated above you pay for 1:1 training, however we have found that learning with someone else in the car can really help boost your understanding, where you develop a great relationship pushing each other to do better. We encourage this but we also ensure you still get the 1:1 training you’ve paid for!
Passing your Part 2 Test will place you in the top 1% of drivers in the UK.
Part Three (Instructing)
Part 3 training provides you with 40 hours 1:1 training, but once again we recommend a training buddy, (other driving schools sell sharing as a diluted training experience, we though know how beneficial it can be!) So as long as you have the time, why not stay in the car on your training buddies lesson? You can also practice any of the topics we cover with each other, to further enhance your learning & understanding
We cover every aspect of the DVSA’s car driving syllabus, and enhance that with our unique inclusion of the reasons why people fail their driving test. This ensures you have a thorough understanding of the full car driving syllabus & why people fail their test and are able to teach from the word go how to drive Confidently & Safely & how not to fail the driving test.

After the assessment we will then sit down with you and check your knowledge of the car driving syllabus, and find out how you would teach various aspects of the syllabus.
This will help us identify what is needed to make the changes to your teaching techniques and estimate how much training you will need! We will do everything we can to help you improve, we also include our unique content of the reasons why people fail their driving test.
This ensures you have a thorough understanding of the full car driving syllabus & why people fail their test and are able to teach from the word go how to drive Confidently & Safely & how not to fail the driving test.
Your training can then start we have a minimum booking of 2 hour lessons which are charged at £55 per hour. If you block book more than 6 lessons the price decreases to £52.50 per hour.
'Trigger Point' Instructor Training
Every ADI works hard to teach their students to a the correct standard to be able to pass their driving test, however we know this sometimes does’nt work out well, and you can end up with a bad run of fails!
Since the DVSA brought in the ‘Trigger Points’ that lead to an ADI requiring a check test to ensure they are still suitable teach people to drive it has made us very much more focused.
The ‘Trigger Points’ are as follows:
- Average number of driving faults per test is greater than 6 or more
- Average number of serious faults per test is greater than 0.55
- Percentage of driving test where the examiner takes action is 10% or higher
- Driving test pass rate is 55% or lower
If you ‘Trigger’ 3 or more of these points in any rolling 12 month period you will reach the criteria for a check test to be completed.
READY To Pass can help you turn your driving test results around, by working with you on how to ensure your students are READY To Pass, We’ll work with you to ensure your lessons are ‘Client Centred’ and that wherever possible you ‘Coach’ your students to learn.
We’ll make sure you know the reasons students fail their driving test, and how you can teach them to ensure they don’t pick up any driving faults never mind serious or dangerous faults. Ultimately this will improve your students readiness for the test, and you can always send them to us for a READY To Pass ‘Mock Test’
Ensuring your students have a Mock Test with us will let us know that you are improving, and gives you the opportunity to work on any faults we find, so that when they attend for their full test there’s a very good chance they will pass
As with all of our training the first hour will be watching you give a lesson, after that we’ll make an estimate of how many hours training you will need, we will also need to see your rolling 12 months driving test data (this will really help us fine tune your training)
