Driving Fault Workshops for Driving Instructors

Improve Fault Awareness, Coaching Confidence, and Test Outcomes

Our Driving Fault Workshops are designed for driving instructors who want to improve consistency, reduce pupil driving faults, and strengthen overall test performance. The workshops are designed to support improvement at any stage — not to criticise current performance.

These workshops form part of our ongoing professional development support for Approved Driving Instructors.

Delivered locally by former DVSA driving test examiners and qualified ADIs, these workshops provide a structured, supportive environment where instructors can explore driving faults in depth and develop practical solutions they can apply immediately.

Why Driving Fault Awareness Matters

Driving faults are rarely caused by a single mistake. More often, they develop gradually through gaps in understanding, coaching approach, or decision-making.

Left unaddressed, this can lead to:

  • Rising driving fault counts

  • Increased serious faults or examiner intervention

  • Falling pass rates

  • Growing pressure around rolling test data

Our workshops focus on understanding why faults occur, how they develop, and — most importantly — how instructors can prevent them through better coaching.

What Makes These Workshops Different

These are not lectures and they are not one-way presentations.

Our workshops are:

  • Interactive and collaborative

  • Based on real test outcomes and real faults

  • Guided by a clear, structured fault-analysis framework

  • Steered by former DVSA examiners with extensive assessment experience

Instructors are encouraged to:

  • Share experiences and challenges

  • Explore solutions together

  • Develop deeper understanding rather than surface fixes

Throughout the sessions, discussion is guided carefully to ensure it stays aligned with DVSA assessment standards and examiner expectations.

What You’ll Gain From Attending

By attending the Driving Fault Workshops, instructors will:

  • Develop a clearer understanding of how driving faults arise

  • Improve confidence in identifying and explaining faults

  • Strengthen coaching techniques to prevent faults developing

  • Improve lesson consistency and pupil progress

  • Reduce avoidable driving faults on test

  • Support stronger, more consistent pass rates

The focus is on long-term improvement, not quick fixes.

Frequently Asked Questions

Who are the Driving Fault Workshops for?
The workshops are designed for qualified ADIs and PDIs who want to improve fault awareness, lesson consistency, and pupil outcomes. They’re suitable whether you’re newly qualified or very experienced.

Are these workshops suitable if my pass rate is currently good?
Yes. Many instructors attend to strengthen consistency, refine coaching techniques, and prevent issues developing in the future — not just to fix problems.

Is this a lecture or classroom-style course?
No. The workshops are interactive and discussion-based. Instructors are encouraged to share experiences and work through real scenarios together, guided by examiner insight and a structured fault framework.

Will my own results or data be discussed publicly?
No. The workshops focus on common themes and shared learning. Any personal concerns or data are handled privately and professionally.

Do I need to prepare anything in advance?
Yes, please apply for your DVSA rolling 12 month stats report prior to starting the workshop – this helps you measure the worth of the workshop! Also bring an open mind and a willingness to reflect on coaching approaches is all that’s needed.
