To help learners become safe, confident drivers who are genuinely ready for their driving test — and for the road beyond it.
We’re proud to be a Wirral & Chester area based driving school led by former DVSA driving test examiners, offering calm, professional tuition grounded in real test experience and the highest driving standards.
We are a local driving school proud to be based in Greasby, Moreton, Claughton and Chester, and covering all Wirral areas plus we now cover the Chester test centre areas, we are dedicated to helping learners become safe, confident, and fully prepared drivers.
Ready To Pass Driver Training is owned and run by Dave and Susie, both qualified Approved Driving Instructors and former DVSA driving test examiners.
Between them, they’ve spent decades assessing driving standards, identifying faults, and seeing first-hand why learners pass — and why they fail. That experience now sits at the heart of everything we do.
Our aim isn’t just to help you pass a test.
It’s to help you drive safely, confidently, and independently for life.
Having conducted thousands of driving tests across the Wirral and Chester areas we understand exactly:
What examiners look for
How driving faults develop
Why good drivers sometimes fail
And how confident, well-prepared learners succeed
That insight allows us to coach differently.
We focus on fault awareness, decision-making, and consistency, helping learners understand why something is a fault — not just how to avoid it for test day.
The result is calmer learners, fewer surprises on test, and a much higher chance of passing first time.
We believe the best learning happens in a calm, supportive environment, where mistakes are treated as opportunities to improve rather than something to fear.
Our lessons are:
Structured, but flexible
Tailored to your pace and confidence
Focused on real-world driving, not shortcuts
We regularly work with:
Nervous or anxious learners
Learners who have struggled previously
Those wanting to feel fully prepared before booking their test
You’ll never be rushed, pressured, or taught “just to pass”.
As a Wirral & Chester based driving school, we have extensive experience around:
Upton, Wallasey and Chester test areas
Local road layouts, junctions, and traffic conditions
Common test routes and known problem areas
This local knowledge helps learners feel more confident and better prepared — without relying on rote learning or memorising routes.
In addition to teaching learners, we also support driving instructors through our fault-awareness workshops and professional development.
Local instructors from the Wirral, Chester, and North Wales attend our sessions to improve consistency, reduce test faults, and develop a deeper understanding of assessment standards.
The same structured approach used in these workshops underpins every learner lesson we deliver.
Our reviews consistently mention:
Calm, reassuring instruction
Clear explanations
Improved confidence
Strong test preparation
First-time passes
We’re proud of the trust our learners place in us — and we work hard to earn it.

Building confidence is such an important part of learning to drive, and it’s great to hear how much Mark helped with that. Congratulations again, and thank you for the recommendation!Posted on Google Matthew ThompsonTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I recently passed my driving test and couldn’t have done it without my instructor. Mark who I’ve worked with for the past 6/7 months. From the very first lesson, they were patient, calm, and incredibly clear in their explanations. They broke down everything into simple steps, which made everything much easier to understand and build confidence. What I appreciated most was how supportive Mark was, especially when I made mistakes. Instead of feeling stressed, I always felt encouraged and knew exactly what to improve for next time. Thanks to Mark’s guidance, I went into my test feeling prepared and confident. I’d highly recommend Mark to anyone looking for a reliable, friendly, and knowledgeable driving instructor.

Thank you, Daisy. We really appreciate your kind words—Suzie will be delighted. Congratulations on passing first time, and all the best for your driving ahead! 🚗Posted on Google Nathan KayTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Very disappointing experience. I’d only had a handful of lessons and was still at an early stage, so I was expecting a calm, supportive approach. Instead, the instructor (Susie) shouted and screamed during the lesson, which I found completely inappropriate. It knocked my confidence significantly — to the point where I now feel uneasy about even getting back in a car. That’s the opposite of what driving lessons should achieve. When I asked what to do in a situation where I couldn’t think clearly after being shouted at, I was accused of not listening and undermining the instructor. In reality, I was simply trying to steady myself and understand what had happened, not to challenge the instructor. The response lacked both reassurance and professionalism. I also felt the instructor was unsettled from the outset — quite tense and on edge. She arrived 30 minutes late and spoke about a prior argument, which set the tone for the lesson. That mood seemed to carry through the session I had paid for. A calmer, more patient and compassionate approach with students is really needed. Overall, it’s been a waste of money so far and not a positive learning environment. I wouldn’t recommend based on this experience. Edit/add following instructor’s reply below: If being notified via WhatsApp less than an hour before the scheduled lesson that the instructor would be late is what is meant by “communicated and agreed in advance”, then that characterisation is, at best, questionable. Arriving in a visibly agitated and heightened state following a prior argument, and carrying that energy throughout the lesson, is wholly inappropriate in a teaching environment—particularly one that requires calm, measured instruction and clear communication. Driving instructors are equipped with dual controls for a reason. In any situation where there is a genuine safety concern, the instructor has the immediate ability to intervene and apply the brakes. That safeguard exists precisely to manage risk without resorting to panic or raised voices. What is unacceptable here is not the existence of a difficult moment, but the instructor’s conduct throughout. Everyone has off days, but when you are responsible for teaching a learner driver, professionalism is not optional. If you are not in the right frame of mind to deliver a safe and supportive lesson, the appropriate course is to cancel or reschedule—not to project that onto a paying student.
Owner's reply
Thank you for your feedback. We take all comments seriously, particularly where a student feels unsettled following a lesson. However, it is important to provide context to this situation. During the lesson, there were a number of occasions where the vehicle was being driven in a manner that presented an immediate safety risk. This included approaching a parked vehicle without sufficient clearance and stopping abruptly with a vehicle following closely behind. On both occasions, clear and timely instruction was given to prevent a potential collision. Where a situation becomes safety-critical, an instructor may need to raise their voice or take physical control of the vehicle. This is not done out of frustration, but to ensure the safety of the student, other road users, and the public. Effective driver training relies on a student being willing to listen to and act on instruction, particularly in developing situations. In this instance, repeated guidance was not followed, which significantly increased the level of risk and required intervention. We regret that the experience affected your confidence, as that is never our intention. However, safety must always take priority over comfort in situations where there is a real and immediate risk. With regard to the lesson timing, this had been communicated and agreed in advance. We wish you well with your future learning and encourage you to work with an instructor where you feel comfortable, but also one whose guidance you are prepared to follow, particularly in safety-critical situationsPosted on Google Eve NobleTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I spent around 7 months with Dave, taking a couple of months break during winter of 2025. Although this break has occurred, Dave’s teaching skills had allowed me to recall all of my driving techniques with no problems. Dave’s patience and dedication to my lessons allowed me to have a positive attitude towards driving, whilst gaining loads of knowledge. The time and effort which he put into my lessons resulted in my first time pass, which has been a huge achievement for me. I would definitely recommend Ready To Pass to anyone aiming for high standard driving!!

Eve - Thank you for such a thoughtful review—it really means a lot. You did exactly what good drivers do: you took responsibility for your learning, stayed consistent, and came back after your break ready to pick things up again. That’s why everything fell back into place so well. Your positive attitude throughout made a big difference. You were always open to learning, willing to reflect, and prepared to put the effort in—and that’s what leads to a first-time pass. It’s been a pleasure working with you, and I’m genuinely pleased to see you achieve such a well-earned result. Drive safely and enjoy your independence! 🚗Posted on Google George AmatoTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I had Dave as my instructor. He always made lessons an enjoyable experience, adapting well to my needs as and when necessary. His advice was always very helpful both on the road and off the road looking at routes on maps and showing me how to tackle awkward junctions. I passed my test recently and would recommend 100%! Thanks Dave!

Ready To Pass Driver Training is led by a small, experienced team of instructors who share the same values: calm coaching, high standards, and preparing learners properly — not rushing them through a test.
Our team includes former DVSA driving test examiners and experienced Approved Driving Instructors, bringing real assessment insight and local knowledge to every lesson.
“Dave brings decades of experience from policing, road safety, and driver assessment. His background as a former DVSA examiner allows him to coach learners with clarity, precision, and a strong focus on safe decision-making.”
What matters most is this: Dave genuinely loves teaching people to drive.
His enthusiasm, reassurance, and calm approach help learners feel relaxed, confident, and ready to succeed.
Dave brings decades of experience in road safety, driver development, and assessment. Before becoming an Approved Driving Instructor, he served for many years as a police officer specialising in traffic and road safety, qualifying as a Class 1 advanced car driver and advanced motorcyclist.
Following his police career, Dave trained as an Approved Driving Instructor and later became a DVSA driving test examiner, conducting thousands of driving tests across the Wirral. This role gave him an in-depth understanding of how driving standards are assessed and why learners pass — or fail — on the day.
Dave’s teaching style is calm, structured, and methodical. He focuses strongly on fault awareness, decision-making, and consistency, helping learners understand why something matters rather than simply what to do.
His aim is not just to help learners pass their test, but to produce safe, confident drivers who are well prepared for real-world driving long after the test is over.
“Susie is known for her calm, patient teaching style and her ability to help nervous learners grow in confidence. Her examiner experience ensures lessons are always aligned with current test standards.”
Susie is an exceptional driving instructor whose coaching skills have been shaped by a diverse and highly accomplished career.
Susie is a qualified Approved Driving Instructor and former DVSA driving test examiner, with extensive experience assessing learners at local Wirral test centres.
She is particularly well known for her calm, patient approach and her ability to put nervous or anxious learners at ease. Susie understands that confidence plays a huge part in driving performance, and her lessons are designed to build that confidence steadily and naturally.
As a former examiner, Susie has a clear understanding of modern test standards and common driving faults. She uses this insight to help learners recognise issues early, correct them properly, and approach their test feeling prepared rather than pressured.
Susie specialises in automatic driving lessons and is especially effective with learners who have previously struggled, lack confidence, or simply want a supportive, structured learning environment.
“We are delighted to welcome Mark Jennings as a valued member of the Ready To Pass instructor team.
Mark is a valued member of our team, providing professional, supportive instruction that complements our examiner-led approach and high standards.”
Mark brings a rich and varied background to his role, shaped by a lifetime of leadership, coaching, and helping others succeed.
Before moving to the UK, Mark lived in South Africa, where he built a distinguished career in broadcasting. He helped create and develop radio stations, ultimately earning a place in the South African Radio Hall of Fame.
One of his proudest achievements was transforming a classical music radio station in Cape Town into a financially successful and vibrant broadcaster.
Mark’s life has been full of adventure too — including co-skippering a yacht and winning multiple ocean races. But throughout these experiences, one passion has remained constant: coaching.
As a long-time Scouts South Africa volunteer, Mark has spent many years teaching young people to sail both dinghies and keelboats. This foundation in youth development shapes his approach behind the wheel today.
Mark is an experienced manual driving instructor who shares the same high standards and learner-focused approach as the rest of the team.
He provides clear, professional tuition tailored to each learner’s needs, helping them build safe driving habits, confidence, and consistency. Mark’s teaching complements our examiner-led approach and ensures learners receive the same structured, calm instruction across the school.
Mark is a valued part of Ready To Pass Driver Training and plays an important role in supporting learners at all stages of their driving journey.
