How to Look for and Book an Earlier Driving Test Cancellation
Important DVSA Advice
Driving tests are in high demand, and many learners are looking for earlier test dates, often called cancellation tests.
DVSA has made it clear that you must manage your own driving test booking yourself. This means you must not use unofficial cancellation apps, bots, websites, social media sellers, or anyone offering to find and book a test for you.
These services can put your booking at risk. If DVSA detects misuse linked to your licence or booking, your test may be cancelled or your online booking access may be restricted.
The only official way to book, check, change or cancel your driving test is through GOV.UK.

Before You Start
You will need:
Your UK driving licence number
Your driving test booking reference number, or
Your theory test pass certificate number
You should also have access to your own email address and mobile phone number.
Do not give your driving licence number, theory certificate number, booking reference, email address or payment details to anyone offering to find a cancellation for you.
Step 1 — Speak to Your Instructor First
Before looking for an earlier test, check with your instructor.
You need to know:
Whether you are genuinely test ready
Whether your instructor is available on the date and time you are looking at
Whether the test centre is suitable
Whether you have enough time to prepare properly
An earlier test is only useful if you are ready. A rushed test can easily become an expensive fail.
Step 2 — Go to the Official GOV.UK Change Test Page
Go to:
https://www.gov.uk/change-driving-test
Select Start now.
This takes you to the official DVSA driving test booking service.
The service is normally available from 6am to 11:40pm.
Step 3 — Log In Using Your Own Details
Enter the details requested by DVSA.
This will usually include:
Your driving licence number
Your driving test booking reference number, or
Your theory test pass certificate number
You must complete this yourself.
Your instructor can give advice, but they must not log in and manage the booking for you.
Step 4 — Search for Earlier Test Dates
Once you are inside the official DVSA booking system, you can search for available appointments.
You may need to check regularly, as earlier dates appear when other learners cancel or move their tests.
Be patient. Cancellation appointments can appear and disappear quickly.
Step 5 — Check the Date, Time and Test Centre Carefully
Before changing your test, make sure you check:
The test centre
The date
The time
Your instructor’s availability
Whether you are likely to be fully prepared
Whether you can get to the test centre in good time
Do not move your test just because an earlier date appears. It still needs to be the right test for you.
Step 6 — Confirm the Change Yourself
If the earlier test is suitable, confirm the change through the official GOV.UK system.
Once confirmed, check that you receive the updated booking details.
Keep the confirmation safe.
Step 7 — Tell Your Instructor Immediately
As soon as you change your test, tell your instructor.
Send them:
The test centre
The date
The time
The booking reference if needed
This helps your instructor plan your remaining lessons and make sure you are properly prepared.
How Many Times Can You Change Your Test?
DVSA says you can change a car driving test appointment up to 2 times.
If you need to make more changes after that, you will usually have to cancel the test and book again.

Avoid Unofficial Cancellation Apps and Social Media Offers
Do not use:
Cancellation finder apps
Bots
Automated booking services
Social media sellers
People offering test dates through WhatsApp or direct message
Anyone asking for your licence number, theory certificate number, booking reference or payment details
These services are not approved by DVSA.
DVSA says these services can breach the booking system terms and conditions. They may also put your personal details, money and test booking at risk.
Important Safety Reminder
Getting an earlier test is not the main goal.
Being ready is the main goal.
A good test booking is one where:
You are properly prepared
Your instructor agrees you are ready
You can drive independently and safely
You can manage test pressure
You are not relying on luck
If you are unsure, speak to your instructor before changing your test.
Passing first time is great, but becoming a safe driver matters more.
