Why Learners Choose Ready To Pass
Ready To Pass is led by experienced Approved Driving Instructors, including former DVSA driving test examiners Dave McGarvie and Susie Thomason.
That background gives our learners a clear advantage. We understand how driving faults develop, how examiners assess them, and how to help pupils correct problems before they become test-day issues.
Our lessons are calm, structured and honest. We do not rush learners to test before they are ready, and we do not teach people simply to memorise routes. We teach safe decision-making, strong routines and confident independent driving.

Congratulations again, and thank you for the recommendation!Posted on Google Matthew ThompsonTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I recently passed my driving test and couldnāt have done it without my instructor. Mark who Iāve worked with for the past 6/7 months. From the very first lesson, they were patient, calm, and incredibly clear in their explanations. They broke down everything into simple steps, which made everything much easier to understand and build confidence. What I appreciated most was how supportive Mark was, especially when I made mistakes. Instead of feeling stressed, I always felt encouraged and knew exactly what to improve for next time. Thanks to Markās guidance, I went into my test feeling prepared and confident. Iād highly recommend Mark to anyone looking for a reliable, friendly, and knowledgeable driving instructor.

Congratulations on passing first time, and all the best for your driving ahead! šPosted on Google Nathan KayTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Very disappointing experience. Iād only had a handful of lessons and was still at an early stage, so I was expecting a calm, supportive approach. Instead, the instructor (Susie) shouted and screamed during the lesson, which I found completely inappropriate. It knocked my confidence significantly ā to the point where I now feel uneasy about even getting back in a car. Thatās the opposite of what driving lessons should achieve. When I asked what to do in a situation where I couldnāt think clearly after being shouted at, I was accused of not listening and undermining the instructor. In reality, I was simply trying to steady myself and understand what had happened, not to challenge the instructor. The response lacked both reassurance and professionalism. I also felt the instructor was unsettled from the outset ā quite tense and on edge. She arrived 30 minutes late and spoke about a prior argument, which set the tone for the lesson. That mood seemed to carry through the session I had paid for. A calmer, more patient and compassionate approach with students is really needed. Overall, itās been a waste of money so far and not a positive learning environment. I wouldnāt recommend based on this experience. Edit/add following instructorās reply below: If being notified via WhatsApp less than an hour before the scheduled lesson that the instructor would be late is what is meant by ācommunicated and agreed in advanceā, then that characterisation is, at best, questionable. Arriving in a visibly agitated and heightened state following a prior argument, and carrying that energy throughout the lesson, is wholly inappropriate in a teaching environmentāparticularly one that requires calm, measured instruction and clear communication. Driving instructors are equipped with dual controls for a reason. In any situation where there is a genuine safety concern, the instructor has the immediate ability to intervene and apply the brakes. That safeguard exists precisely to manage risk without resorting to panic or raised voices. What is unacceptable here is not the existence of a difficult moment, but the instructorās conduct throughout. Everyone has off days, but when you are responsible for teaching a learner driver, professionalism is not optional. If you are not in the right frame of mind to deliver a safe and supportive lesson, the appropriate course is to cancel or rescheduleānot to project that onto a paying student.
Owner's reply
Thank you for your feedback. We take all comments seriously, particularly where a student feels unsettled following a lesson. However, it is important to provide context to this situation. During the lesson, there were a number of occasions where the vehicle was being driven in a manner that presented an immediate safety risk. This included approaching a parked vehicle without sufficient clearance and stopping abruptly with a vehicle following closely behind. On both occasions, clear and timely instruction was given to prevent a potential collision. Where a situation becomes safety-critical, an instructor may need to raise their voice or take physical control of the vehicle. This is not done out of frustration, but to ensure the safety of the student, other road users, and the public. Effective driver training relies on a student being willing to listen to and act on instruction, particularly in developing situations. In this instance, repeated guidance was not followed, which significantly increased the level of risk and required intervention. We regret that the experience affected your confidence, as that is never our intention. However, safety must always take priority over comfort in situations where there is a real and immediate risk. With regard to the lesson timing, this had been communicated and agreed in advance. We wish you well with your future learning and encourage you to work with an instructor where you feel comfortable, but also one whose guidance you are prepared to follow, particularly in safety-critical situationsPosted on Google Eve NobleTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I spent around 7 months with Dave, taking a couple of months break during winter of 2025. Although this break has occurred, Daveās teaching skills had allowed me to recall all of my driving techniques with no problems. Daveās patience and dedication to my lessons allowed me to have a positive attitude towards driving, whilst gaining loads of knowledge. The time and effort which he put into my lessons resulted in my first time pass, which has been a huge achievement for me. I would definitely recommend Ready To Pass to anyone aiming for high standard driving!!

Eve - Thank you for such a thoughtful reviewāit really means a lot. You did exactly what good drivers do: you took responsibility for your learning, stayed consistent, and came back after your break ready to pick things up again. Thatās why everything fell back into place so well. Your positive attitude throughout made a big difference. You were always open to learning, willing to reflect, and prepared to put the effort ināand thatās what leads to a first-time pass. Itās been a pleasure working with you, and Iām genuinely pleased to see you achieve such a well-earned result. Drive safely and enjoy your independence! šPosted on Google George AmatoTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I had Dave as my instructor. He always made lessons an enjoyable experience, adapting well to my needs as and when necessary. His advice was always very helpful both on the road and off the road looking at routes on maps and showing me how to tackle awkward junctions. I passed my test recently and would recommend 100%! Thanks Dave!

What Makes Our Training Different?
Former Examiner Insight
Most instructors understand lessons. Former examiners also understand how driving is assessed on test. That means your training is focused on the standard required to pass safely and confidently.
Structured Lessons With Clear Progress
Every lesson has a purpose. We agree what you are working on, identify what needs improving, and help you build skill step by step.
Calm, Patient Coaching
If you are nervous, anxious or lacking confidence, you are not alone. We work calmly and professionally, helping you understand what to do, why it matters, and how to improve.
Fault Awareness From the Start
Many driving test failures come from habits that have developed over time. Our training helps you recognise and prevent common driving faults early, giving you a better chance of being properly ready for test.
Manual and Automatic Driving Lessons
Ready To Pass offers both manual and automatic driving lessons, subject to instructor availability.
Whether you want to learn in a manual car or prefer automatic lessons, our aim is the same: to help you become a safe, confident driver who can deal with real roads, real traffic and real decisions.
Preparing for Upton & Wallasey Driving Test Centres
Both Upton & Wallasey provide a varied driving environment, including busy roundabouts, dual carriageways, residential roads, changing speed limits, junctions, meeting situations and town-based traffic.
Our training helps you develop the awareness, planning and judgement needed to manage these situations safely.
We do not believe in simply memorising test routes. Instead, we teach you how to read the road, make safe decisions and drive confidently wherever the examiner takes you.
Mock Driving TestsĀ
Click Here to find out more about our Mock Tests

- A realistic test-style drive
- Assessment of driving faults
- Clear feedback after the drive
- Honest advice on readiness
- Guidance on what to improve before test day
A mock test is not about pressure. It is about clarity.
A Reassuring Choice for Parents
Choosing a driving instructor for your son or daughter is a big decision.
At Ready To Pass, we understand that passing the test is only part of the goal. The bigger aim is helping young drivers develop safe habits, good judgement and the confidence to drive independently after they pass.
